Donegal Golf Club at Murvagh is just a hop and a skip up the road from Harvey’s Point. As you make your way up the long, winding driveway, anticipation builds as you get first glimpse of the course. This Eddie Hackett design was initially modelled on Muirfield and it’s two circuits, and has evolved since 1970 with renowned designed Pat Ruddy responsible for a number of improvements.

As with most links courses, on a calm day you will meander around the first 9 holes and feel like you have its measure. An increase of wind on the 10th tee will soon put you back in your place.

Much like Kingsbarns in Scotland, a couple of holes around the turn almost feel like parkland with the forestry which skirts the course and this variety only adds to the experience. Murvagh is regularly among the top 20 courses in Ireland.

As with most courses in Donegal, it is the welcome that will stand out even over the world class golf.

Narin & Portnoo

As you arrive at Narin & Portnoo and take in the views of Gweebarra Bay, you will feel as though you have hit the jackpot with 4 hours on this beautiful course ahead of you.

Constructed in 1930 and sculpted among the dunes, the course has been modernised in recent years to bring it up to the standards of todays golfer. You will find side hill lies, dunes that resemble mountains, wind beating in off the ocean and the odd generous fairway just to keep the old morale at an acceptable level!

The par 73 is memorable but what will last with you for months afterwards is the warmth of those that greet you. There is nothing pretentious about this wonderful course despite its accepted standing among the best courses in Ireland.

Today the complex has 27 championship holes on site and hosts numerous prestigious amateur tournaments annually. Harry S. Colt was responsible for the redesign of the course in 1927 and it stands up to modern golfers without difficulty.

Your drive from Harvey’s Point will allow you to take in the beautiful scenery of Yeat’s country with renowned poet W.B. Yeats a native of the area.
